Each sport must first of all assess their independent needs and demands prior to
establishing a unique set of protocols for their particular sport.
Specific programmes must consider appropriate medical and anthropometric
screening, selection and monitoring time frames, core skill development and
effective performance related to maturation.
Attitude and competitiveness are also factors, which may be measured over a
specific period of time.
Having a player of worth affiliated to a particular programme is of no real
benefit unless he can continue along a pathway of development and begin to focus
on long-term goals.
These athletes must be able to hone their skills with their peers in an
appropriate talent pool, which has been designed to enhance their performance on
a graduated scale.
